Chengshan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at the Chengshan (Cheng Mtn) in Mishan County, Heilongjiang Province. It was named by the Heilongjiang 1st Regional Geological Survey Expedition in 1984.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics. A suite of clastics composed of conglomerate, sandstone and slate. Lower part consists of interbeds of conglomerate, white feldspar-rich sandstone and black slate, with its basal part representing tuffaceous sandy slate, intercalated with coal seams (5 cm); Middle part represents grey-white and grey-green medium-, and coarse-grained sandstones; Upper part is predominated by conglomerate which constitutes an interbed together with yellow-brown sandstone and black carbonaceous and silty slate. At the Chengshan in the Mishan County its visible thickness is of 414 m, while in the Jiufogou trench of the Dongning area this thickness reaches as great as 1983 m.

Regional extent
Distributed in the Liangzichuang, Jiufogou, Dadianzi and Laoheishan areas of Dongning County, and the Pingyang area of Jidong County, Heilongjiang Province.

Fossils
Plant fossils: Phytolites as Comia, Zamiopteris, Noeggerathiopsis, Pecopteris orientalis and Sphenopteris. At the Dadianzi area of the Dongning County it also yields Cladophlebis, Gigantonoclea and Taeniopteris.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as river-lake facies.
